Sp ent most of it finagling the engine and trans to meet up right. Because transmission jacks are for squares.
I’m exhausted and will probably feel it even more tomorrow morning.

You’re doing God’s work, my man.

Are you just putting the trans on a normal j ack with a 2x4 or something then?

Yep

The second to last time I swapped the trans in the metro I could not get them to seat, I had a good workout bench pressing it and trying to finagle them together. Come to find out one of the spacer / dowel things was still in the engine and also on the junkyard trans. Removed one and it slid together.
I laugh about it now, but I was on the verge of losing it before I figured it out. Then felt dumb, yet relieved it was a simple problem.

I struggled for a good bit before remembering that the dowels were more of a press fit than a slip fit, so they would likely never slide right in. After that, a C clamp fixed my problem in about 10 minutes.

No Harbor Freight nearby?
Hopefully the Bronco is back in action soon.

Their cheapest tranny jack is still $100, I think my suffering was worth it.

Yeah that’s hard to justify when it’s a (hopefully) once in a decade job.

Yessir. Need some light fabrication to get the engine mounts secured properly, but it's in.

Scale of 1-10, how much of a pain in the ass?

I'm gonna say 6.
